February Program—Mark Beckstrand—NDOW Fisheries Biologist

Having grown up in Panaca, I know this area well. My career with NDOW began in 2000, when I worked seasonally for the native fish biologist in Las Vegas while attending Utah State University. I earned a bachelor's degree in fish and wildlife with an emphasis in fisheries in 2003. In 2005 I joined NDOW full time at the Lake Mead Fish Hatchery, and after two years there I moved into the Lake Mead biologist role in 2007. I stayed with the lake until 2009, when I relocated to Panaca to oversee the fisheries of Lincoln, Nye, and Esmeralda counties.
