Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs
This former state park is located in the Northwest part of Las Vegas off of HWY 95 and Durango Blvd. There is a $6 fee to enter the park, but the cost is well worth fishing at this beautiful park. There are 4 ponds which are inter-connected underground and contain 9 species of fish (7 game fish, 1 carp species, and 1 endangered species). The park is open during daylight hours and a current Nevada fishing license is required for anglers 12 years and older.
Boulder City Pond at Veterans Memorial Park
This is the newest of the local ponds, but has quickly become a great fishing pond. There are 2 ponds at the park, but the smallest is for RC boats only. This ponds is good for those with physical disabilities since the shoreline does not have a drop off, just a gradual slope into the water. Currently the pond has 3 game species. The pond is open during park hours and a current Nevada fishing license is required for anglers 12 years and older.
Lorenzi Park Pond
Managed by the City of Las Vegas and is one of the smallest of the urban ponds and is home to 6 species of fish (5 game fish and 1 carp species). The pond is open during park hours and a current Nevada fishing license is required for anglers 12 years and older.
Sunset Park Pond
Clark County Park and entrance is free. The pond is approximately 5 acres and is home to 6 species of fish (5 game fish and 1 carp species). The pond is open during park hours and a current Nevada fishing license is required for anglers 12 years and older.
Cold Creek Pond
The smallest of the ponds and is located approximately 45 minutes Northwest of Las Vegas in the Spring Mountain Range. The pond is stocked a few times of year and only with rainbow trout. The best part of this small pond is that it’s cool even in the middle of summer. And is a great place for wildlife viewing. [ Directions: North on HWY 95, turn left on Cold Creek Road next to Southern Nevada Correctional Center. 12 miles up the hill towards the township of Cold Creek, just past fire stations turn right on first dirt road and stay to the right at forks. Go between 2 small ponds over culvert and down the road to the bigger pond.] Pond is open to fishing 24 hours.
Mesquite Urban Ponds
Hafen Park Pond
Hafen Park pond is a small pond on the south side of town next to the middle school. The pond is stocked with rainbow trout and channel catfish and is open during park hours.
Fishing Areas within 3 hour of Las Vegas
Big Bend of the Colorado River State Recreation Area
One of the newest state park areas and is very popular as a winter getaway since Laughlin seldom freezes. The park has a full hookup campground, as well as tent areas. Rainbow trout is stocked often by the US Fish and Wildlife hatchery at Willow Beach. This area of Southern Nevada is one of the most under-fished area of Nevada.
Key Pitman Wildlife Management Area
(Nesbit reservoir) is located about 2 hours north of Las Vegas and is a warm water fishery with bass, crappie, bluegill, and catfish. Shore fishing can be difficult due to cattails around the lake, but is a great place for float tubing or small boats.
Spring Valley State Park
Eagle Valley Reservoir is the lake within the state park and is a popular place for Las Vegas locals to escape the heat of summer and enjoy great fishing. The lake boasts rainbow trout, brown trout and in the last few years tiger trout have been stocked into the lake. There are day use fees for the park and fees to use the camp ground.
Echo Canyon State Park
Unique in that it is the only place in Southern Nevada that has rainbow trout, largemouth bass and crappie that can be caught on the same day. This lake offers great fishing from both the shore and boats. The parks has a nice campground, but has both day use fees and camping fees.
Wayne E. Kirch Wildlife Management Area (Sunnyside)
Located 3 hours north of Las Vegas off of HWY 318 this WMA has 4 fishable reservoirs that allow boating and fishing (Adams-McGill, Dacey, Haymeadow, and Cold Springs). The area has a free campground with running water, restrooms and a dump station. Rainbow trout are stocked regularly except during the winter when the ponds are often frozen over and ice fishing can be done when the ice is thick enough. The ponds are also home to largemouth bass which don’t usually start to bite until late May or June. This is a great area for float tubing, but is difficult to wade.
